Ag Partners Cooperative

Calhoun Super Structure, in collaboration with Greenfield Contractors, installed Ag Partners’ impressive 59,400 square-foot dry fertilizer terminal in a timely, efficient manner. The VP Series structure provides ample room for heavy equipment, fertilizer storage, and overhead space, while the sun-soaked interior creates a bright work environment. A CC Series 16′ x 80′ was also installed as a vehicle shelter. Due to the exceptional customer service, professionalism, and prompt installation displayed by Greenfield Contractors, in conjunction with Calhoun, Ag Partners is elated to continue working symbiotically for future operational expansions.

In conjunction with Calhoun, Iron Horse Structures provided RMI with four buildings: VP Series 50′ x 60′ & 74′ x 120′ and two CC Series 42′ x 120′. Each structure was installed in mere days but was built to last against the harsh New Hampshire weather. With the addition of vents, RMI was able to customize its structure while maintaining a tight budget. For ten years, Calhoun has been RMI’s preferred solution!

With durability top of mind, Calhoun’s fabric structure helped provide long-lasting protection from inclement weather and damaging ultraviolet rays. The side entrance also features a dormer design, above the entrance, to help divert heavy snowfall from accumulating and causing structural damage.

Calhoun’s fabric structures can be customized for a variety of applications, from size – length, width and height — to color and style, including the DPW’s contemporary design. The fabric’s natural translucency results in a brighter atmosphere than many traditional structures, thus reducing or eliminating the need for artificial light and boosting energy cost savings.

Protyre

Compared to traditional storage structures, Calhoun’s customizable GB-series fabric storage building offered Protyre the design and functionality required to meet the business’ needs, within budget. The facility was built on a two-foot, 10-inch-thick knee wall, in order to comfortably anchor the eight-foot metal legs into a concrete curb. This set-up successfully secured the side tarp to a concrete wall with plastic termination strips, to utilize for enclosed tire storage.

The fabric structure’s design flexibility allowed the customer to select a specific barn-style framework and color, to seamlessly blend in with Protyre’s other buildings on-site. The sloped roof configuration provided the additional benefit of allowing snow to slide off, reducing snow load in the winter.

East Lynn Fertilizer

Overall, customizability and cost-efficiency remained top priorities for the customer. Calhoun engineers included a customizable leg height, providing more space to elevate the fertilizer with an overhead tripper conveyor. A vertical mixer was also installed outside to transfer fertilizer directly to the loading truck. Additionally, given that East Lynn Fertilizer is family-operated, Calhoun added an office space inside the building for personnel to closely monitor activities on-site.

Being a highly corrosive material, fertilizer warrants a durable storage building, engineered to protect against deterioration. To combat corrosion, Calhoun includes hot-dipped galvanized steel frameworks and stainless-steel cables within each of its structures – to avoid the pitting, rust and damage traditional storage buildings commonly suffer. These quality, durable elements offered East Lynn Fertilizer an even higher return on investment overall.

New Cooperative Inc.

Given the Missouri River location, protecting assets from harsh weather conditions remained top of mind. As such, a three-foot-tall concrete stem wall was attached to the fabric to safeguard assets from potential flooding. Additionally, to easily transport fertilizer within the building, Calhoun engineers installed a Sackett-Waconia overhead tripper belt conveyor – collaborating closely with the conveyor manufacturers to ensure all elements aligned with the structure’s specific dimensions.

Fertilizer storage buildings require significant open space to support large vehicles, conveyors and on-site personnel. To accommodate NEW Cooperative’s needs, Calhoun provided them with a customizable leg height and installed an off-center conveyor to increase usable space.

Ottowa Barge Terminal

Given tough environmental conditions, durability was top of mind for the customer. Calhoun’s high-density polyethylene (HDPE) fabric is manufactured with an advanced film for UV-resistance, flexibility, seam strength, longevity and even corrosion-resistance. HDPE’s heavyweight, flexible material and our closely spaced trusses were optimal for protecting the Ottawa Barge’s valuable assets – while withstanding monstrous winds.

To combat fertilizer’s corrosive properties, Calhoun used stainless steel cables and hot-dip galvanized (HDG) steel – fabricated steel fully immersed in a bath of molten zinc. In this case, HDG steel was preferred, as its cathodic protection prevents the pitting, rust and deterioration that most fertilizer storage buildings endure. This also allowed Calhoun to create a building with enough clearance for large vehicles, as the fertilizer was frequently loaded and unloaded into semi-trucks from the barge to the storage building.

To accommodate the Ottawa Barge’s needs, Calhoun fully customized this structure with tailored heights and a free span interior. Calhoun’s engineers used an eight-foot leg, allowing for ample side clearance and more usable space. With the free span floor plan, Calhoun was able to help optimize fertilizer storage space and enhance the customer’s business operation overall.

Cook Farms

Calhoun was able to design a fertilizer storage building that would store the relevant commodity using the building’s HSS legs, with intermediate posts and tongue-and-groove pressure-treated 2×6 posts.

Using this design, Calhoun was able to incorporate the design of the structure to support the commodity storage, and eliminate the need for a concrete retainment wall, saving the customer $30-40,000.

Nathan chose Calhoun based on the value of the building and install proposal, as well as the option to be able to install his building on top of shipping containers. The containers were also used for additional storage space.

During the unforeseeable delays, Calhoun and dealer partner, Cobra, kept in constant communication with the customer so there was complete transparency throughout the entire process.

The customer ultimately chose a Calhoun structure as the building package was simple enough to install himself which saved him cost on labour. It further offered him the ability to dismantle and re-assemble it in the future. He liked the idea that the fabric allows for 80% light transfer, and preferred the service that was provided throughout the entire process.
